Back to School!

While Dan and I were busy exploring Bermuda and injuring ourselves, Emma and Hallie spent half the week with my parents and the other half with Dan's parents. They had a relaxing time with my parents and an event-filled time with Dan's parents. Hallie enjoyed all the one-on-one attention that she got from her grandparents. Emma struggled with homesickness, not sleeping well in a different place, and not having her parents, so when we called the girls each night to say goodnight and hear about their days, she would break down and beg us to come home right away!  Poor kid!

They did have a great time, though, especially according to Hallie.  Dan's parents took them to historic Jamestown one day and sent us these cute pictures.

When we got home, we only had a week until school started. The girls and I had our traditional, end-of-summer "Mommy and Me Day," where we did fun things all day long together. I set up a scavenger hunt that morning with surprises for them to discover around the house.

They got a box of new clothes for their "American Girl" dolls. They're actually the Disney brand ILY Forever dolls, which are the same size as American Girl dolls.

They had lots of fun dressing them up in new outfits!

I got them a couple of toy crossbows with soft arrows, and we set up a target for them to practice shooting at.

They got a new set of dinosaur Scribble Scrubbies

They also got digital cameras that had special effects. They took some extremely flattering photos with them.

After lunch, we visited Bounce House (an indoor inflatable gym) since they've been asking to go there recently.

They got to spend some quarters on toys from the dispensers at Bounce House, then we headed to the store so they could each choose a toy. It's always such a fun day with them and they're really excited to do it again every summer.

We purchased one of StoneBridge School's student artwork calendars this summer because we personally know one of the published artists!  Emma's 1st prize elephant drawing was published in the calendar this year!! It's in the bottom left corner of the September page.

We had special visitors in August, right after school started. My brother, Steve, and our niece, Meera, spent a few days in Virginia with us and my parents. We had a wonderful time with them, and even let the girls skip school one day to spend more time with Meera while she was here.

We swam in my parents' pool a couple of times.

And the girls got to visit Bergey's Farm with Meera.

Hallie's favorite part is holding the sweet baby bunnies

I think Emma enjoys the goats best - especially the small babies, which she loves to pick up and hold.

Hallie was invited to a back-to-school party with her upcoming 2nd grade classmates.
She had a blast swimming in the pool with her school friends on the hot summer night

We spent an evening cheering for our nephew, Benjamin, during his very first soccer game with his community college team.

Benjamin is wearing black and running in the photo above

After our fun-filled summer, school started for the year. Hallie has a wonderful 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Learn.  We know she's wonderful because Emma had her for 2nd grade, and our family loves her!

Emma has one of the sweetest teachers at StoneBridge for 5th grade, Ms. Savides. This will be a very special year, since it's her last year as an elementary student!

We pray that the Lord will bless Emma and Hallie with growth, learning, and more love for God this year!
